Prime Minister Carney: Your Silence on Palestinian Death and Destruction Speaks Volumes

Toronto, ON - This week, PM Mark Carney quickly mourned Charlie Kirk's death—a known spreader of hate—yet stays silent as the Palestinian people face daily bombardment, starvation and mass displacement. Meanwhile, Canadian arms exports to Israel continue despite government promises, with weapons components and surveillance tech still flowing from Canada to the Israeli war machine in Gaza and the West Bank both directly, with permits issued by the Canadian government, and indirectly via the U.S.

Meanwhile, the Global Sumud Flotilla—with dozens of ships from over 40 countries—sails peacefully to break Israel's unlawful siege of Gaza and deliver aid. Despite drone strikes, they press on. At the same time, Dr. Suzanne Shoush and Mskwassin Agnew of Toronto, Indigenous health workers, just departed to join another flotilla in solidarity—committed to healing and resisting suffering.

"Whether through Canada continuing to arm Israel or quadrupling its own military budget, we refuse to let war profiteers prosper while people suffer," said Rachel Small, Canada Organizer at World Beyond War, echoing the Draw the Line campaign's call for justice. The contrast is stark: a government that publicly condemns one death while allowing hundreds of thousands to perish in silence.

Our demands to PM Carney and Minister Anand are clear: Suspend all arms trade to and from Israel. Publicly recognize the Flotilla's right to safe passage. Acknowledge Israel’s brutal genocide of the Palestinian people and act.

On September 20th, tens of thousands will mobilize across 60+ cities in Canada to draw the line against this billionaire agenda that prioritizes corporate profit over human life.

Moral leadership means defending ALL lives equally—not just convenient tragedies.

The Draw the Line mobilizations in Canada are organized by Seniors for Climate, Migrant Rights Network, Indigenous Climate Action, Sacred Earth Solar, Climate Action Network Canada (CAN-Rac), 350.org, World Beyond War Canada, For Our Kids, Climate Reality Project Canada, Climate Emergency Unit, Greenpeace Canada, Council of Canadians, Music Declares Emergency, and Palestine Solidarity Network, and endorsed by over 200 organizations representing millions of Canadians. From rallies to strikes, marches to gatherings, this September 20th, communities will mobilize across the country and demand that Prime Minister Carney and the Canadian government pick a side: injustice, violence, and climate destruction- or a just and safe future for all of us.
